The St. Bernard Sheriff's Office has recently expressed gratitude to its Reserve Division deputies by hosting a festive holiday appreciation party. Held at the historical Docville Farm in Violet, this event celebrated the deputies' commitment and the numerous hours of volunteer service they provide to the community. Sheriff James Pohlmann underscored the critical role these volunteers play in maintaining safety in St. Bernard Parish. "Our Reserve deputies willingly give their time, step up whenever they're needed, and play a vital role in keeping our parish safe," Sheriff Pohlmann explained in a statement obtained by the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office's Facebook post.

The Reserve Division, supervised by Lt. Chris Scheeler, is comprised of 22 trained volunteers who serve as unpaid officers. During the event, not only were the deputies treated to prize drawings and raffles, but they also received a generous show of support from the community. Rita and Floyd Gue, on behalf of the Meraux Foundation, presented an ample $5,000 donation to help support to further enhance training, equipment, and operational needs for the division. "We are thankful to the Meraux Foundation for its continued generosity and support of law enforcement in St. Bernard Parish," Sheriff Pohlmann told attendees at the gathering, as stated by the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office.

As the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office looks towards future growth, it continues to seek new applicants for its Reserve Division. Those interested are required to complete the Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) School. Lt. Scheeler outlined additional requirements for applicants, which include being at least 21 years of age, possession of a high school diploma or GED, and a clean police record, as background checks are part of the standard procedure. For more details or application inquiries, potential recruits can reach out to Lt. Scheeler directly at (504) 278-7634.
