The Backward Hat, a New Iberia men's and boys' boutique built around foosball tables, arcade games and televised sports, is opening a second Acadiana storefront in Youngsville. The new shop will sit inside La Ville Centre plaza at 615 Lafayette St #8, expanding a business that only opened its first location less than a year ago.

Co-owners Frankie Provost and Dayna Provost, both natives of New Iberia, launched The Backward Hat's original store in October 2025, according to WhatNow. The idea took shape after Frankie Provost visited Cecelia's, a women's boutique, and recognized a gap in New Iberia's men's retail scene left by the closure of Backstage, a longtime local men's and boys' clothier, as reported by The Daily Iberian. That original shop opened at 712 S. Lewis Street, Suite D, just 99 days after the Provosts began researching the market, the paper reported.

From New Iberia Startup to Two-Store Brand

The Backward Hat sells brand-name and its own branded merchandise, offering curated athletic, casual and business-casual apparel meant to transition, as the owners put it, from the gym to the office. Per WhatNow, the store caters to customers ranging from toddlers to grandfathers and emphasizes community connection and versatility over a purely transactional shopping trip. The Provosts identified what the Daily Iberian's report described as a significant gap in the local men's retail market before building their concept around it.

That concept leans heavily on atmosphere rather than racks of clothes alone. The Daily Iberian's report detailed a man-cave-style layout with foosball, arcade games and sports on television, designed as a hangout spot where men could gather socially even without buying anything. Ahead of the Youngsville opening, the business began recruiting part-time sales associates and floaters in August to split hours between the New Iberia and Youngsville stores, according to a post on the company's Facebook page.

Why Youngsville Is the Next Stop

The new location will occupy La Ville Centre, a 15,000-square-foot commercial complex built for ten 1,500-square-foot retail and service units that opened in August 2025, developed by The Gleason Group along Youngsville Highway, according to Developing Lafayette. To land founding tenants, leasing management for the plaza offered incentives this year including tenant improvement allowances covering full build-out costs and up to six months of rent-free occupancy, with leasing handled by Scout Real Estate Co. and La Ville Centre LLC.

Youngsville's pull for retailers is rooted in fast growth and deep pockets. The city's population climbed from 15,929 residents in the 2020 U.S. Census to roughly 20,000 by 2026, marking more than 25% growth in six years, according to World Atlas. Youngsville also carries the highest median household income in Lafayette Parish at $95,395, well above the $51,462 figure in neighboring Lafayette, per the City of Youngsville.

Part of a Broader Commercial Wave

The Backward Hat's arrival adds to a retail and dining boom already reshaping Youngsville's commercial corridor, which has recently welcomed Parc Bonin, Kartchner's Specialty Meats at Metairie Centre, Whataburger and Swig, according to Developing Lafayette. Rapid suburban home construction across the area continues to drive demand for new retail infrastructure. Hoodline previously reported that the region's economic momentum extends into manufacturing as well, with a $7 million Quality Companies expansion creating and retaining hundreds of jobs across Youngsville and Jeanerette, including an alloy fabrication shop in Youngsville.

Whether the man-cave formula that built a following in New Iberia translates to Youngsville's fast-growing, higher-income shopper base remains to be seen. But for a business that went from market research to a second location in under a year, The Backward Hat is betting that community atmosphere, not just clothing racks, is what keeps Acadiana shoppers coming back.
