St. Charles County residents have an opportunity to provide input on proposed changes to U.S. Route 61. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will hold an informational meeting on December 17, at Wentzville City Hall from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The session will focus on corridor changes identified in a Traffic Safety and Operations study that began in fall 2023, and attendees can review the proposals and share feedback. No formal presentations are scheduled for the meeting.

The study has identified potential major improvements to U.S. Route 61, including a grade-separated interchange at the intersection with Highway W and new connecting outer roads from Dietrich Road to McHugh Road. These changes are designed to improve safety by eliminating existing at-grade median crossovers. According to MoDOT, the proposed interchange would use a “dogbone” configuration, similar to the one at I-64/Prospect in Lake St. Louis. MoDOT has allocated $40 million for these upgrades by 2028, while additional potential improvements remain unfunded and are listed on the agency’s High-Priority Unfunded Needs List for future consideration.

The project is aimed at managing increasing traffic in the area, with engineers analyzing crash data and traffic projections to guide the improvements. Residents who travel along this section of U.S. Route 61 or have an interest in regional development and safety have an opportunity to review the plans and ask questions directly at the MoDOT open house.

MoDOT has confirmed that the meeting will be accessible for individuals with disabilities. Requests for accommodations can be made by contacting their helpline or emailing [email protected]. The open house on December 17 at Wentzville City Hall provides an opportunity for the public to review proposed changes, ask questions, and share input before final decisions are made on the U.S. Route 61 corridor improvements.
