In St. George, Utah, an officer's interrupted meal has become a symbol of the everyday sacrifices made by local law enforcement. The St. George Police Department shared a photo on social media of a dinner left uneaten, as duty called an officer away to attend to a lost child and then, to administer life-saving CPR to someone in need. The photo, shared on their official Facebook page, came with a caption that read, "A picture tells a thousand words.... This one shows the meal that was left when an officer got the call of a child who was found without their parents. The meal stayed uneaten as the officer then got a call of someone who needed CPR," as per the St. George Police Department.
The post was clearly intended to quietly highlight the commitment and quick responsiveness of the SGPD's force. "The men and women at SGPD are absolutely amazing in their selfless service," the accompanying text on the Facebook post by the St. George Police Department.
This small yet powerful image is a nod to the routine realities faced by officers, who are regularly required to quickly abandon personal activities in the service of public safety and emergencies. The St. George Police Department intended to give credit where it's due, drawing attention to the often unseen moments that make up a police officer's day.
