Detectives with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office are warning the public about a telephone scam reported in the area. Scammers are calling people and pretending to be deputies with an arrest warrant, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
The callers claim victims must meet them and pay money to avoid being arrested. This is a scam. The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office will never call to collect money or notify someone of a warrant over the phone. Do not share personal information—hang up immediately.
Anyone who believes they have been targeted or victimized by this scam should report it to their local law enforcement agency, as per the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
