
A tragic event unfolded in the Walnut Park West neighborhood when a woman and her child were discovered shot inside a home that had subsequently caught fire. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to an emergency call in the early hours, around 12:10 a.m., at the 5700 block of Floy, according to their report. When firefighters subdued the flames, they found the victims, a 45-year-old female and her 9-year-old daughter, with gunshot wounds.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital where they were listed in critical and unstable condition which casts a solemn shadow over the community during what should be a season of celebration; Homicide Detectives are now actively investigating the case, piecing together the events that led to this violent act. The SLMPD Bomb & Arson Unit has also been brought in to assist with the investigation.
The authorities are calling on anyone with information to step forward, urging witnesses or those with knowledge of the incident to contact the Homicide Division directly at 314-444-5371.
