Starke County will receive over $500,000 for road and bridge projects through Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, established by House Republicans in 2016. According to State Rep. Kendell Culp (R-Rensselaer), nearly 200 communities are sharing $100 million in state matching grants this round.

According to the Indiana House of Representatives, Knox and North Judson received $514,640 and $20,000, respectively, through the grant program. “As the Crossroads of America, it is important that we continue to improve and expand our roadways,” said Culp. Grants help communities address growth and development needs. Smaller municipalities must contribute 20% in local funds, while larger ones provide 50% to access the support.

The program requires that half of the matching funds go to communities in counties with populations under 50,000, ensuring smaller regions receive support. Since its inception, the Community Crossings initiative has invested over $2 billion in local road and bridge improvements, demonstrating Indiana’s commitment to infrastructure.
