Assistant Finance & Budget Director Nick Makie, who presented the findings to the city officials, underscored the consistency with which the city has been recognized for financial excellence. This marks the 37th consecutive year that the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded Sterling Heights for top-notch financial reporting and budgeting. Makie's report, shared on the City of Sterling Heights, reflects a solid trajectory of responsible financial management.

Rehmann Robson LLC, the independent auditing firm, lauded the City finance staff's precision and rigor. As per an interview with the City of Sterling Heights, Dan Merritt, Principal of Rehmann Robson LLC, praised the city for an audit process that was both more efficient and effective than the previous year, citing "exceptional professionalism and collaboration" on behalf of the finance team.

The audit also revealed that the City managed to funnel investments into significant infrastructure projects and community enhancements without tipping the scales of fiscal balance. "In the past fiscal year, the City was able to continue to invest in the community through major road reconstruction efforts, neighborhood road improvements, and upgrades to recreational assets and place making amenities," Finance & Budget Director Jennifer Varney explained, City of Sterling Heights. All while maintaining a healthy fund balance and a commendable AA credit rating by Standard & Poor's, the beneficiary of a robust financial strategy.
