The incident, recorded by security cameras, occurred after the car's rightful owner reported it stolen from Miami Beach and traced it to Southwest 2nd Avenue and 17th Street, as per Miami police statements reported by NBC 6 Miami.
Responding officers encountered the carjacker entering the sleek sports car, taking off just as police attempted to intervene the driver then made an attempt to flee which resulted in losing control of the vehicle and causing it to collide into another police cruiser and a light pole in the area, the pursuit came to a crashing halt. The aftermath was a precarious scene with a damaged police vehicle and a snapped utility pole that reminded onlookers of the fragility inherent in even the finest engineered of machines.
Brickell residents experienced sudden darkness as the utility pole's destruction interrupted electrical services, with Florida Power & Light reporting more than a dozen customers without power. The company's crews quickly mobilized to remove the broken pole and restore power, working diligently into the morning to repair the damages as chronicled by NBC 6 Miami.
The aftermath of the crash drew curious residents out of their homes, as echoed in the words of one local, Robert Brand, who described a surge in brightness before the power failure, curiosity led him onto his balcony from where he spotted what had transpired below, according to an interview with Local 10 News. The suspect, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for a minor cut before booking procedures will follow as outlined by law enforcement officials.
