A stolen blue Dodge Charger Hellcat tore through South County yesterday, but its run ended on a Morgan Hill off‑ramp with two people in handcuffs instead of behind the wheel.
Morgan Hill officers, already on the lookout for vehicle-theft and burglary crews, first tried to stop the Charger on East Dunne Avenue. Instead of pulling over, police say the driver took off, leading them onto Highway 85 and then toward the Santa Teresa Boulevard off‑ramp from Highway 101. The getaway fizzled there when the car was disabled. Both occupants bailed out on foot, but officers caught them and later booked them into Santa Clara County Jail.
In a Facebook post, the Morgan Hill Police Department said officers conducting proactive surveillance along East Dunne Avenue spotted a blue Dodge Charger Hellcat rolling without a license plate. When they tried to pull it over and the driver refused to yield, the Charger allegedly bolted onto westbound Highway 85, then went the wrong way onto the eastbound Highway 101 and Santa Teresa Boulevard off‑ramp. Officers used stop sticks as the car entered northbound 101 and eventually disabled the vehicle, according to Morgan Hill Police Department.
A search of the Hellcat turned up a collection of tools that investigators say are commonly used in vehicle burglaries. Police also determined the car had been reported stolen out of Oakland in November 2024. The two people inside, identified as driver Kentrell Davis and passenger Rudolph Henderson, were arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on multiple charges, the department said.
Why Officers Were Watching
The stop did not happen in a vacuum. The arrests follow a broader spike in thefts targeting high‑performance Dodge models in South County, prompting stepped-up patrols as officers try to intercept organized theft crews before they strike.
As reported by NBC Bay Area, police have urged Dodge owners to park in garages when possible and to avoid confronting suspects directly while regional task forces continue investigating the trend.
Charges and What Comes Next
Both Davis and Henderson were booked into Santa Clara County Jail on counts that include criminal conspiracy, evading, possession of burglary tools and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the department. Investigators also say Davis was wanted in Oakland on a robbery warrant.
Prosecutors with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office will now review the case and decide what formal charges to file. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Sean Bayard through the Morgan Hill Police Department, or check the department’s website at Morgan Hill Police for contact details.
Safety Advice
Police and local outlets continue to stress that residents should not confront suspected thieves. Instead, officials urge people to call 911, provide as much detail as safely possible and let officers handle it. Investigators say their work is ongoing as they look into whether the two men picked up in the Hellcat may be tied to other thefts in the region.
