Last Saturday morning, San José Police Department officers responded to a violent altercation on Tully Road near the Highway 101 off-ramp, where a man was assaulted with a metal pole. The victim, an adult male found with critical injuries, was rushed to a local hospital for treatment, where his condition was later stabilized. Details of the scene were shared in a press release issued by SJPD and made available to the public on their official website.
Following the incident, investigators quickly identified Jonathan Nunez as the alleged assailant. An already wanted individual for felony vandalism after damaging a place of worship on Christmas Eve, Nunez's capture became a high priority. The Christmas Eve incident involved him entering a service and striking a window with such force that it caused an estimated $20,000 in damages, the details of which were included in the SJPD news release.
Within a day of the attempted murder, Nunez was located and apprehended by San José patrol officers. He is now facing charges for attempted murder and vandalism and has been booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. The arrest brings to a close a manhunt that began with the disturbing act at a community place of worship and escalated to a violent attack just days later.
Authorities are continuing to appeal to the public for any information related to Nunez's recent criminal activities. Detective Soria #4793 of the San José Police Assaults Unit is heading the investigation and invites potential witnesses to reach out via email at [email protected] or by phone at 408-277-4161, with a promise of confidentiality for those who might fear retribution for coming forward.
