A tragic vehicular collision in South Jordan last night resulted in multiple injuries and a widespread power outage affecting hundreds of local residents. The crash, which involved an SUV failing to heed a red light and colliding with another vehicle, occurred around 5:45 p.m. near 2700 W. and 11400 S., as confirmed by the South Jordan Police Department.

The driver of the SUV is being investigated for suspected DUI, with the South Jordan PD noting that "both the passenger and the driver of the SUV were transported to a local hospital in serious condition," as reported by Gephardt Daily. Additionally, the front passenger was ejected from the SUV upon impact, suffering severe injuries. A 5-month-old infant, also an occupant in the SUV, was taken to Primary Children's Hospital with minor injuries.

Following the initial collision at the intersection, the SUV proceeded to strike two utility poles and an electrical box. This resulted in a power outage initially impacting approximately 575 people, though crews from Rocky Mountain Power managed to reduce those affected to five and estimated that service would be fully restored by 10:30 p.m., according to ABC4.

Master Officer Shaun Becker emphasized the importance of avoiding the area due to the ongoing investigation and the repairs being conducted by emergency services and Rocky Mountain Power. The other driver involved in the crash was reported to have sustained minor injuries but stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the authorities, as detailed by KSLTV.
