A fatal collision on Louisiana Highway 155 in Bienville Parish has led to the arrest of a suspected impaired driver. The incident, taking place last Saturday, resulted in the death of 27-year-old Natalie Waller of Bastrop, who was a passenger in the vehicle, according to a statement obtained by the Louisiana State Police.
The crash, involving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven northbound by Tanner Hill, 33, of New Port Richey, Florida, ended fatally when his vehicle inexplicably veered off the road and collided with a tree. Following the accident, Hill was able to immediately receive minor injuries treatment. Investigators quickly began to suspect impairment as a contributing factor, leading them to quickly arrest and process Hill at the Bienville Parish Jail for vehicular homicide. Toxicology samples were collected to conclusively determine the presence of any substances that could have impaired Hill's ability to operate the vehicle, as detailed by the Louisiana State Police.
On the evening in question, "Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single-vehicle crash," as per the official report hosted on the Louisiana State Police news release. Natalie Waller, who was properly restrained in the second seat of the Silverado, was pronounced dead at the scene while Hill, also restrained, survived with minor injuries. Such incidents starkly remind the public of the human costs of impaired driving, a preventable tragedy that continues to plague our communities.
Louisiana State Police used this incident to remind the public about the dangers of impaired driving. They explained that alcohol and drugs weaken awareness, decision-making, and reaction time, which can lead to serious crashes. They urged drivers never to drive while impaired, to stay alert, avoid distractions, and follow traffic laws—saying these actions can be the difference between life and death.
