A man was shot in the Little Woods neighborhood of New Orleans East on Sunday morning, and police have released few details as the investigation continues. The shooting happened around 11 a.m. in the area of Kingsport Boulevard and Curran Boulevard, leaving an adult man with at least one gunshot wound to the body.
The man was taken to a local hospital via private conveyance rather than an ambulance, according to WDSU, which first reported the shooting. Beyond the location, timing, and the victim's injury, police provided no other information at the time of the station's report, leaving open questions about whether the shooting happened outdoors or inside a vehicle and whether the delay in reaching a hospital by private car affected the man's treatment. It also remains unclear whether investigators have identified any suspects or recovered video evidence from the surrounding corridor.
A Familiar Corridor for Violence
The stretch of Kingsport Boulevard has drawn police attention before. NOPD Seventh District detectives investigated a nonfatal shooting in the 7600 block of Kingsport Boulevard back in June 2021, an incident that led to an arrest warrant for a then-14-year-old male suspect on a charge of aggravated battery by shooting, according to the New Orleans Police Department. The Seventh District, which polices Little Woods and the rest of New Orleans East, operates out of a 20,000-square-foot station at 10101 Dwyer Road and covers roughly 133 square miles, making it the largest police district in the city by geography, per the City of New Orleans.
Little Woods has emerged as one of the city's most persistent violence hotspots even as citywide numbers trend downward. A June analysis of NOPD calls-for-service logs by the Times-Picayune found that Little Woods recorded eight homicides over the preceding period, more than any other single neighborhood in New Orleans, despite an overall drop in killings citywide since a post-pandemic peak in 2022. CrimeGrade.org placed Little Woods in the 1st percentile for murder safety nationally based on 2025 data, estimating an average murder rate of 0.35 per 1,000 residents annually.

Part of the challenge for investigators is stretched police resources. Little Woods itself is a dense, largely residential community along Lake Pontchartrain.
Potential Charges If a Suspect Is Identified
Should investigators identify a shooter, Louisiana law offers several possible charging paths. Under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:34, aggravated battery committed with a dangerous weapon carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment with or without hard labor, along with a fine of up to $5,000, or both. Separately, Louisiana Revised Statute 14:94 penalizes the illegal discharge of a firearm where death or great bodily harm is foreseeable with up to two years in prison; when the discharge occurs from a vehicle, the enhanced penalty is up to 10 years at hard labor.
