A man suspected of committing two separate assaults at the Gilroy Target has been apprehended, all thanks to a watchful store manager and the power of social media. On Tuesday evening, the Gilroy Police Department posted an alert on Instagram, warning the community about an individual connected to the incidents and who had left the scene in a white Toyota sedan.
Shortly after the report went live, the same suspect reappeared, this time catching the eye of the aforementioned manager. Acting on the information provided by the police's post, the concerned citizen promptly dialed 9-1-1 to report the suspect’s presence at a local store on the 700 block of 1st Street. "An assault suspect we alerted our community to on Tuesday night was taken into custody thanks to a vigilant store manager," read the update by the Gilroy Police Department's Instagram account.
The suspect, 24-year-old Marco Orozco, was arrested on suspicion of groping following an effective response by the police officers, who managed to detain him without incident. Orozco was then booked into the Santa Clara County Jail, as the authorities continued their investigation into the alleged assaults, which had unsettled the local community.
Expressing gratitude for the collaborative effort, the Gilroy Police Department's social media post highlighted the effectiveness of communal vigilance, "Great team work by all and our thanks to the store manager who helped resolve these cases quickly and safely."
