A fatal accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist and left two teenagers seriously injured late Monday night in Taylorsville. KUTV reported that the collision occurred around 11 p.m. on 5400 South when a car, under the suspected influence of alcohol, crossed into oncoming traffic and clashed with the motorcyclist, before hitting a power pole. The motorcyclist was a 30-year-old man from Taylorsville who was declared dead after being taken to an area hospital.

According to KSLTV, the Taylorsville Police Department, under the guidance of Lt. Aaron Cheshire, explained that the vehicle driven by a 17-year-old boy veered into the westbound lane, causing a head-on collision with the motorcycle that subsequently burst into flames. The identity of the motorcyclist has not been immediately released. Furthermore, the driver of the car was pinned inside the vehicle, and the passenger, another 17-year-old, was ejected during the ordeal.

The scene of the accident, near 2200 West and 5400 South, quickly became the site of a wider investigation as officers considered the possibility of impaired driving. ABC4 adds that both occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospitals. The passenger is in serious condition, while the driver has sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The aftermath of the crash has sparked a DUI investigation targeting the teen driver.
