Parents and guardians in Team Duval are getting a shot to mix up their children's education as the school lottery application window for the 2026-27 school year swings open. For those looking to step away from the traditional neighborhood school path, magnet and Special Transfer Option (STO) schools present a myriad of options. Interested families have until Jan. 31, 2026, to submit their applications through the Family Portal, accessible via FOCUS with a linked parent account.
A key thing to remember is that this is strictly a lottery process. Applying for one of these schools simply enters your student into the selection hat; a spot at the school is far from guaranteed. According to the Team Duval announcement, lottery results are set to be announced in mid-March, giving parents plenty of time to make alternative arrangements if their pick doesn't pan out.
In an effort to demystify the application labyrinth, the district is stepping up with virtual informational webinars. They're planning to provide enrollment specialists who will guide participants through each step of the application process and address any lingering questions. These webinars are scheduled for Dec. 2 at 6 p.m., Dec. 11 at noon, and Dec. 16 at noon. To clear your calendar and secure a spot in a session, click on one of the provided dates in the Duval County Public Schools official announcement.
