A 17-year-old teen and a 20-year-old man face charges following a double shooting in Detroit's west side, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old woman and injuries to a 22-year-old man. The incident occurred last Wednesday, shortly before 3 p.m., in the 15500 block of Sussex. Police responding to the scene discovered Cherish Hinson and an unnamed man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Hinson later succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital, The Detroit News reported.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office revealed that the shooting arose from an argument involving the two suspects and the 22-year-old male victim. The teen, identified as Lorenza Bernard Lancaster, has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of felony firearm. Kavonta Maurice Plummer, on the other hand, faces charges of accessory after the fact, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and carrying a concealed weapon, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. According to authorities, Hinson was not involved in the altercation, which escalated with Lancaster allegedly firing the weapon, which led to the tragic outcome.
Lancaster was arraigned in the 36th District Court in Detroit with a subsequent court hearing scheduled for December 29. He remains held without bond and has requested a court-appointed attorney. If convicted, the murder and assault charges carry potential life sentences, in addition to up to four years for the firearms charges. Plummer was given a $100,000 personal bond with a GPS tether upon his arraignment, with a court hearing slated for December 23, followed by a preliminary examination set for December 30, as per CBS News Detroit.
