Teen Fatally Shot in Southeast Atlanta, Alleged Attempted Robbery Ends in Tragedy

A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot during an incident Atlanta police are investigating as an attempted robbery. The shooting took place in the southeastern part of the city at approximately 5:10 p.m. yesterday, with officers arriving at the scene on Turman Avenue SE, FOX 5 Atlanta reports.

The young victim was found with a gunshot wound, and despite medical efforts, was pronounced dead at the scene. An unidentified man involved in the incident claimed self-defense, reporting to police that the teenager attempted to rob him, Atlanta News First has said. The police have confirmed, that the teen was in possession of a firearm at the time of the shooting.

The Atlanta Police Department continues to gather evidence and speak with potential witnesses. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released by authorities, and it remains unclear what the precise circumstances were leading up to the fatal shot being fired.

As the investigation presses on, a gun was found on the scene with the 15-year-old, aligning with the man's account of the events which led to him flagging down an officer. Though, no further suspects are being sought at this time, according to both FOX 5 Atlanta and Atlanta News First.

The Atlanta Police Department Homicide Unit is actively involved in piecing together the sequence of events that led to the teenager's death. An autopsy is expected to be conducted to aid in the ongoing investigation.
