Over the weekend, a tragedy unfolded on Loop 202 in Arizona's East Valley, when a horrific car accident claimed the lives of three individuals. According to a report by FOX 10 Phoenix, the collision occurred in the early hours of Dec. 27, just after 2:30 a.m., along the eastbound Red Mountain Loop 202 near McDowell Road. The violent impact resulted in both cars—a 2019 Kia Sorento and a 2003 Toyota Matrix—being fully engulfed in a blaze in the HOV lane.
"Due to the fire, the victims and vehicles were not identifiable," the Arizona Department of Public Safety stated. The agency is now tasked with the grim work of determining the identities of those who perished in the catastrophic event. The freeway bore witness to the disaster, necessitating a shutdown before authorities could clear the tragic scene and reopen it to the public.
