A quiet Thursday morning in Brighton Park turned tragic when a 3-month-old boy was found unresponsive inside a home on Chicago’s Southwest Side and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Detectives have opened a death investigation while the Cook County medical examiner works to determine how the infant died. Authorities have not yet released the child’s name, pending autopsy results.
Police respond to South Troy Street home
Chicago police say officers were called around 7 a.m. to a residence in the 2400 block of South Troy Street, where they found the baby unresponsive. He was taken to St. Anthony Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Investigators have not said what might have led to the child’s condition or whether anyone is in custody. For now, detectives are talking with witnesses and canvassing the neighborhood to piece together what happened inside the home.
Detectives ask neighbors and the public for tips
Area One detectives are leading the investigation, and an autopsy is pending, WGN-TV reports. Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Area One Detective Division at (312) 747-8380. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online at CPDTip.com. Officials say more details will be released once the medical examiner finishes reviewing the case.
What happens next in the investigation
Detectives are expected to wait for the autopsy findings before publicly confirming a cause of death or determining whether criminal charges are warranted, according to FOX 32 Chicago. In the meantime, officers remain in the area, looking for surveillance footage and potential witnesses, and asking anyone who was in the neighborhood around 7 a.m. Thursday to come forward with anything they might have seen or heard.
