A 22-year-old man was killed in an early morning collision in Marrero, when his truck met the hard, unyielding side of a bus. Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the chaotic scene at the intersection of 4th Street and Saddler Road at about 1 a.m. where they found the aftermath of the devastating crash, as reported by WWLTV.
Sheriff Joseph Lopinto's team arrived to a scene where immediate conclusions were not to be drawn, questions as to whether the young man behind the wheel was under the influence still linger, this information coming from WDSU; an autopsy including toxicology testing is promised by the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office, though no timeline on when results might be forthcoming. The street, now bearing the weight of two tragedies in a single day, had earlier been the site of another crash, where a pedestrian lost his life, with deputies responding to the 5900 block of the same street.
The second incident, with details still emerging, occurred later in the evening at around 6:40 p.m., according to WGNO. A man walking east on 4th Street was hit by a vehicle also heading east, the driver remained on the scene and was said to be cooperating with investigators. Both accidents have cast a pall over the community, reminding them of the sudden and harsh realities that can accompany any moment on the road.
