Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and Maryland Governor Wes Moore will meet to address traffic issues in the DMV area, including congestion on I-495/I-270 and rising costs of the FSK Bridge rebuild. Duffy highlighted the urgency of easing congestion on the American Legion Memorial Bridge and advancing the Francis Scott Key Bridge project, emphasizing efficient use of taxpayer funds, according to the US Department of Transportation.
The FHWA has issued a Request for Information (RFI) on the reconstruction of the American Legion Memorial Bridge. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy noted the bridge’s importance for commuters and emphasized the need to ensure projects are completed efficiently and that taxpayer dollars are used effectively.
Secretary Duffy expressed concerns to Governor Moore about the FSK Bridge project’s budget and timeline, citing potential costs for taxpayers. Meanwhile, Virginia has advanced in the Capital Beltway Accord, completing the 495 Express Lane Extension in November to help reduce traffic congestion.
According to the US Department of Transportation, FHWA Administrator Sean McMaster criticized Governor Moore for delays on the American Legion Bridge corridor, saying, “Governor Moore’s lack of action on the American Legion Bridge corridor is holding back progress on one of the nation’s most critical transportation routes.” The FHWA is using a public participation initiative to restart the multistate plan aimed at easing congestion in the corridor.
