CAL FIRE and Coastside firefighters, along with Pillar Point Harbor Patrol, executed a swift rescue after the individuals, who were out crabbing, became stranded on a jetty, according to CAL FIRE CZU San Mateo-Santa Cruz's social media post.
The rescue occurred after dark when the two men, aged between 40 to 50, underestimated the weather conditions and found their inflatable boat and its modest trolling motor overmatched by the wind. "They got pushed onto the jetty," CAL FIRE stated. Jet skis facilitated their extraction to the pier, where firefighter/paramedics provided immediate checks. This incident highlights the importance of weather awareness, particularly when multiple advisories are in effect. The National Weather Service had issued a High Wind Warning, Beach Hazard Statement, Flood Watch, and Gale Warning, urging locals to stay indoors whenever possible.
CAL FIRE took to social media to issue a warning, reminding people of the hazardous conditions on the water. They advised, "We’d like to remind everyone that conditions on the water right now are dangerous."
