Two juveniles have been arrested following a violent altercation near Plantation High School that resulted in a student being shot in the shoulder, as per Plantation Police Department. According to a report by NBC Miami, the incident, which did not take place on school property, occurred after multiple juveniles were involved in a fight a block away from the institution.
After responding to a 911 call on Monday, officers observed the juveniles fleeing the scene, where they discovered the injured student, who is also a football player for Plantation High School. The suspects were accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, as they were seen on video after the shooting running away and one juvenile was seen handing a gun to another. The victim was hospitalized with injuries deemed non-life threatening, confirmed by an Instagram post from the official Plantation Police Department account.
The investigation revealed that the confrontation led to one juvenile, identified as Suspect #1, pistol-whipping the victim with a handgun that subsequently discharged and struck the victim. A weapon believed to be involved in the crime has been retrieved from a canal in Lauderhill, with police later arresting two juveniles in connection to the shooting, who were taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Plantation Police officials assured that the weapon had not been present on school grounds.
Further details of the investigation continue to emerge as authorities indicated that more suspects could be charged related to the event. The aforementioned gun was handed by Suspect #1 to Suspect #2, further complicating the narratives woven by juveniles immersed in the chaos following the gunshot's echo.
