The Atlanta Police Department has reportedly taken into custody two suspects in connection to a pair of shootings that occurred in April 2023. According to a press release from the Atlanta Police Department's official website, Kmauri Burnett was arrested last Friday by U.S. Marshalls in Duluth, Minnesota. He is currently awaiting extradition to Atlanta and faces several charges including Malice Murder and Felony Murder among others.
Similarly, John'Kevious Anderson was taken into custody back in June 2023 by the Georgia State Patrol during what was described as a routine traffic stop. Mr. Anderson has since been charged with crimes closely mirroring those of Burnett's. Both individuals, now facing serious allegations, are presumed innocent until to be proven guilty in a court of law.
The initial incident, which set off subsequent investigations, involved a tragic shooting at 2030 Main St. NW in Atlanta. On April 20, 2023, officers arrived to find a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A related incident occurred almost at the same time, where another male was found shot at 2479 Abner Terrace and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Following these shootings, homicide detectives launched an investigation which led them to recover a vehicle at 1591 Abner Terrace, believed to be connected to both scenes. The ongoing nature of this case was emphasized as detectives continued to unravel the events leading up to the tragic outcomes. Despite the arrests, the investigation into the fatal shootings remains active, suggesting that authorities may still be piecing together the full scope of what transpired on that day in April.
