Atlanta authorities are reporting progress in the grim case of a shooting that left one man dead on the streets of southwest Atlanta. Ranique Crawford, age 19, was arrested in Brooklyn, New York on December 11, for his alleged involvement in the murder, as per the Atlanta Police Department's update on the case. Crawford faces serious charges including Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. He is now waiting to be extradited back to Atlanta. This development, according to the Atlanta Police Department's website, was facilitated by a collaboration between the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, the New York Police Department, and the Atlanta Police Department Fugitive Unit.
In related developments, Tremeico Watson was apprehended on November 4 by officers from the Auto Crimes Enforcement Unit for traffic violations, which quickly turned into a more serious case. The Homicide Unit managed to secure arrest warrants for Watson on identical charges to Crawford's. Details further reveal that Watson, 20, was originally stopped for a traffic infraction, before investigators connected him to the fatal shooting.
The incident that has led to these arrests took place on the evening of October 18, when Atlanta Police responded to reports of a shooting at 2070 Alison Ct. SW. The victim, a 33-year-old male, was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Atlanta Police Department reports. Atlanta Police Zone 4 officers were first to arrive after the 10:02 p.m. call, finding the man already deceased from his injuries.
With both Crawford and Watson now facing legal proceedings, the Department affirms that the investigation still continues. The specific events leading up to the shooting, as well as possible motives or connections between the suspects and the victim, have yet to be disclosed publicly.
