On Thursday, Valley Center Deputies stopped a vehicle tied to an ongoing investigation of "porch pirate" thefts, leading to the arrest of Elijah Saiz and Desiree Seau on felony theft and conspiracy charges. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office, in their official announcement, detailed that the arrest was part of a broader crackdown on package thefts, which tend to spike during the holiday season. Deputies had reason to believe the couple's residence in Valley Center might hold further evidence, or even additional stolen goods.
The subsequent probation search, made possible because Saiz was on probation, yielded more than just evidence of the theft in question. Deputies discovered a miscellany of suspected stolen mail and packages, a double-barreled sawed-off shotgun that was illegally possessed, along with narcotics and related paraphernalia. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to retrieve their packages promptly and to securely lock their vehicles, recommending vigilance as property crimes often increase around this time.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office release, "Several dozen pieces of suspected stolen mail and packages belonging to victims in Valley Center, San Marcos, and the city of San Diego were also located." Both Saiz and Seau now face additional felony weapons and theft-related charges as a result of the items recovered during the search. The investigation, according to authorities, remains in active pursuit of justice by the Valley Center Area Investigations Unit and the Crime Suppression Team.
