According to eyewitness reports and a video spreading across social networks, a woman commandeered her vehicle onto the sidewalk, threading the bustling space between outdoor diners and storefronts before crashing into a business. The alarming episode transpired near popular establishments like the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club and Little 5 Pub, sparking instant chaos among the throng.
"It was scary because you just don’t know what’s going on," told FOX5 Atlanta, Megen Chey, a witness caught in a midst of the turmoil. Patrons were seated at outdoor tables when the sound of clashing metal announced the oncoming danger, sending people scattering for safety. Chey and other bystanders had to leap to the barricades to reach the relative protection of the street as the vehicle menacingly navigated the confined pedestrian paths.
The harrowing scene escalated when the car, according to video footage, not only failed to halt but seemed to accelerate, slamming into the facade of an adjacent business multiple times. Amidst the pandemonium, quick-thinking bystanders intervened. They managed to bring the car to a standstill, extracting the keys from the ignition. Police arrived shortly afterwards, handcuffing the driver at the scene. In a fortunate turn of events, no injuries were reported.
The woman behind the wheel, who was later placed in handcuffs, was visibly donning a Little 5 Pub t-shirt, though the establishment was quick to distance itself. In a statement acquired by FOX5 Atlanta, the pub disavowed the conduct, ensuring the community that the employee has been terminated, expressing relief that there were no serious injuries and promising to take the necessary internal actions. Despite this, it was noted by 11Alive that the pub later retracted their message as the investiagtion proceeded. The driver's motivations remain unclear, and the Atlanta police continue their investigation without confirming if the driver will face criminal charges.
