
Waikiki became the center of a tragic scene on Saturday afternoon when a vehicle veered into a crowd of pedestrians. The incident, reported by KITV, occurred around 4:18 p.m. along the bustling Kalakaua Avenue. According to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS), a 68-year-old male driver was behind the wheel and, along with one pedestrian, ended up hospitalized as a consequence of the accident.
Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics treated the driver and the injured pedestrian, a 60-year-old man. Taken in serious condition was both to a local trauma center in serious condition, suffering from traumatic injuries. As per the information provided by KHON2, videos from the incident showed a hotel pillar damaged, with staff hastily clearing the area of debris. Three ambulances reportedly answered the call resulting from the vehicular mishap.
Two women, aged 27 and 52, were assessed at the scene but declined hospital transport. Their injuries are unclear, though they were reported stable.
The Honolulu Police Department is investigating the accident, but details are limited. No information has been released on whether speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors. A 60-year-old male pedestrian was hospitalized in serious condition due to multiple injuries.
