A tragic shooting in Harvey has resulted in the death of a woman, during what the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office have characterized as a domestic incident. The incident took place on the morning of December 6th, where deputies responded to a call at around 10:15 a.m. in the 2200 block of Deerlick Lane, as confirmed by WWLTV.
Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive woman with a gunshot wound, lying in the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene, with the victim's name being withheld pending notification of the family, WGNO reports. Zed Walker Jr., the 66-year-old husband of the victim, has been arrested in connection to the homicide.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office outlined in their preliminary findings that a dispute had occurred at the residence involving Walker, his adult stepson, and the victim. The confrontation escalated, and Walker allegedly produced a firearm, which discharged while the victim was attempting to mediate between Walker and his stepson. According to WDSU, Walker has been charged with manslaughter and attempted murder and will be booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. The investigation is still considered active, the authorities have indicated.
