In Yamhill County, the Sheriff’s Office is asking the community for holiday donations. Residents are encouraged to support the Shop with a Sheriff (SWAS) program, which brings Christmas cheer to children in need. The initiative pairs deputies with kids chosen by their schools for a special shopping experience at McMinnville’s Walmart.
Launched in 2016, SWAS has become a yearly tradition that builds strong connections between law enforcement and local youth. Beyond giving gifts, the program helps foster trust and positive relationships between officers and the children they serve.
The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office Foundation, a 501(c)(3) established in April 2024, is the official fundraiser for the Shop with a Sheriff (SWAS) program. According to a recent Yamhill County Sheriff's Office Post, the Foundation welcomes donations this #GivingTuesday. Its mission is to enhance public safety and fund programs that go beyond the regular budget to benefit Yamhill County residents.
Those wishing to contribute can visit the YCSO Foundation website or send checks marked Shop with a Sheriff to the foundation’s P.O. box. The Sheriff's Office aims to exceed the program’s goals, providing a richer holiday experience for participating children.
