An 11-year-old girl was the unintended victim of a shooting in an Antioch apartment complex parking lot. The incident occurred yesterday, when responding officers learned that shots had been fired at 3915 Delta Fair Boulevard. The young girl sustained a gunshot wound to the head while she was seated in the passenger seat of her family's vehicle as they were about to exit the parking lot, according to the Antioch Police Department's recent press release.
After the shooting, the vehicle containing the injured child moved to a shopping center's parking lot. This swift decision by the family to seek aid quickly allowed the officers to respond directly to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered the girl and immediately rendered first aid. The Contra Costa County Fire Department then took over, subsequently transporting her to Children's Hospital Oakland, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation by the Antioch Police has indicated that the shooting took place at the apartment complex and that the family of the injured girl does not seem to have been the intended target.
