Gunfire shattered yesterday afternoon in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood, leaving one person wounded at a busy corner and sending police searching for a shooter who has yet to be found.
The victim was discovered at Eddy and Taylor streets and taken to a hospital with what authorities described as a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
What Police Say
San Francisco Police Department officers were dispatched just before 5:10 p.m. after reports of shots being fired in the area. When officers arrived, they found the injured person at the scene and had them transported to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
As of now, no arrests have been made. Investigators have been canvassing the neighborhood, talking to potential witnesses, and looking for surveillance footage that could show what led up to the shooting or who pulled the trigger.
The incident came just a day after a separate burst of violence nearby: a stabbing near Leavenworth and Turk in which witnesses helped officers identify and arrest two men, according to KTVU.
Violence In The Tenderloin
The Tenderloin has been grappling with a steady drumbeat of serious crimes in recent months. In early December, a man was killed in a fatal shooting in the neighborhood, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Neighbors and business owners in the district have told reporters that repeated incidents like these fuel a lingering sense of unease on the streets surrounding Civic Center, even on otherwise routine afternoons.
