Two people were rescued from an apartment fire in New Orleans’ Garden District, which involved 58 fire department personnel. WWLTV reports that the fire broke out on Prytania Street just before noon Sunday at a three-story building housing eight units at 3028 Prytania St.
According to the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD), crews were dispatched around 11:55 a.m. and quickly called a second alarm due to the fire’s severity. A third alarm was requested to protect surrounding properties and ensure residents’ safety. WGNO reports that two adults were rescued from a second-floor window when escape routes were blocked.
The fire affected parts of the second and third floors, and firefighters conducted a door-to-door search to confirm all residents were safe. WDSU reports the rescued individuals were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, though their current condition has not been reported.
No other injuries to residents or firefighters were recorded. The NOFD brought the fire under control shortly before 1 p.m., with 21 units responding to contain it. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
