An Annapolis woman is now in custody after Maryland State Police arrested her on multiple charges, including first and second-degree assault and use of a firearm in a felony crime, after she allegedly engaged in a road rage incident with a firearm on Route 50, according to the Maryland Department of State Police's latest press release.
The woman, identified as 29-year-old Kaila Crews, was taken into custody near her residence by Maryland State Police on Wednesday. She was taken afterwards to the Jennifer Road Detention Center. The loaded firearm was found in her vehicle during a search conducted under a warrant. It was placed in a backpack on the front passenger seat. On December 18, a victim reported to troopers from the Annapolis Barrack that during the road rage incident, Crews had first brandished a crowbar and then a firearm; thankfully, the victim was not injured. The Highway Gun Crime Initiative of the State Police took over the investigation that eventually led to Crews' arrest.
In the wake of the arrest and ongoing efforts to curb gun violence, Maryland State Police continue their search for information regarding the unsolved cases involving the deaths of Delonte Hicks and Charles Marks; in their press statement they urged anyone with details that could be pertinent to come forward, and callers may remain anonymous given the sensitivity and potential risks in such tip-sharing by calling 410-538-1887.
