Senior Isaac Salas from Martin High School has been crowned the City of Arlington’s Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2026, a title that speaks to his diverse talents on the field and his focus in the classroom. Known for his versatility, Salas has bounced through positions, recently making a switch from defense to offense with notable finesse.
According to the City of Arlington's news article, Martin High’s Head Soccer Coach Joey Lockhart describes Salas' transition through the positions, "He’s changed his position this year from left back to midfield to forward." Further praising his adaptability, he added, "He’s effective all over the place because he’s thinking about how the game changes," despite the challenges inherent to such transitions on a competitive level.
Salas has also proved himself to be a standout student when off the pitch. His favorite subject, Environmental Science, likely offers a discipline and investigative rigour that parallels the critical thinking necessary on the soccer field. However, Salas sees the sport as more than just a physical activity; it's an education in resilience and self-improvement. "Overall the mentality that the sport has given me, even after a poor performance, I can be able to get right back up and learn from it and keep going," Salas told the City of Arlington's news article.
