Six people robbed a jewelry store at gunpoint Sunday night on Chicago's Far North Side, according to police. Investigators say the group forced its way into the shop, grabbed items from display cases and then took off in getaway vehicles. No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains active.
Per FOX 32 Chicago, the holdup happened at about 7:23 p.m. in the 2600 block of West Devon Avenue in the West Ridge neighborhood. Police said six people, one of them armed with a handgun, "forcefully" entered the store, removed merchandise from display cases and fled in a white SUV and a black SUV. Area Three detectives are leading the case and told FOX 32 there were no reported injuries and no arrests as of Sunday night.
Devon Avenue Has Been Targeted Before
Devon Avenue's jewelry row has seen this play out before. In May 2024, a smash‑and‑grab crew hit Zar Jewelers, shattering display windows and inflicting heavy losses, according to CWBChicago. That earlier robbery, captured on video, also involved a white getaway vehicle and ended with no immediate arrests. Local merchants say evening holdups and smash‑and‑grab crews remain a constant worry along stretches of the Far North Side.
Police Ask Witnesses To Step Forward
Police said no arrests have been announced in Sunday's robbery and urged anyone with information or relevant video to come forward. Authorities typically ask that tips be directed to the Bureau of Detectives — Area Three at (312) 744‑8263 or submitted anonymously at CPDTIP.com, per CBS Chicago. Detectives are expected to review surveillance and neighborhood video as they work to identify the vehicles and suspects involved.
The robbery is the latest sign that North Side businesses remain vulnerable to evening holdups and smash‑and‑grab crews, a pattern documented in recent police alerts and local coverage, including reporting by FOX 32 Chicago. This report will be updated as investigators release additional information or announce arrests.
