
The Athens Police Department is intensifying its manhunt for David Rodriguez Cruz, a 32-year-old suspect connected to a recent stabbing incident. According to a news release from the police department, Cruz is charged with attempted first-degree murder following an altercation that took place on Hamby Street. While specific details about the victim's condition were not disclosed, they are known to have been hospitalized after the event, per WVLT.
Investigators believe that the suspect, described by WATE as being 5’11” tall and approximately 200 pounds with brown hair and eyes, might have fled the scene in a silver 2005 Toyota Highlander bearing a North Carolina license plate, LBK-9152. Not believed to be in the immediate area, police caution the public not to approach Cruz, citing him as "armed and dangerous."
As authorities continue the search, they appeal to the community for assistance. According to WBIR, any individuals with information about Rodriguez Cruz or the whereabouts of the affiliated vehicle are encouraged to contact the Athens Police Department directly or to call 911 immediately.
