Residents of Cowell Lane in Atherton are on alert after a recent break-in raised concerns about neighborhood security. On Sunday evening, at around 7:35 pm, the Atherton Police Department (APD) was dispatched to the unit block of Cowell Ln. following a residential alarm, as stated in a news release from the Atherton town website. Upon arrival, officers discovered a shattered glass door at the back of the residence, a telling sign of forcible entry. The burglary is under active investigation, and little information has been released about the incident.
The APD is requesting the assistance of Cowell Lane residents, urging those with surveillance systems to review their footage for any unusual activity that might contribute to the case. Those with potential leads are encouraged to contact the Atherton Police Department at 650-688-6500. A noteworthy detail, there was a ten-minute delay between the alarm trigger and the notification to the APD by the alarm company, an aspect that might be relevant to the intrusion's timeline. The police department also offered to monitor local alarm systems free of charge, an initiative that might improve response times in future incidents.
While the APD has not disclosed any substantial details about the suspects, they have noted the involvement of a white BMW hatchback in connection with the burglary.
