A major drug operation has been dismantled in metro Atlanta, with authorities netting over $1 million in illegal narcotics, a multitude of weapons, and even a live grenade. This significant bust is the culmination of a months-long investigation led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Northwest Georgia Drug Task Force, in collaboration with local branches of the FBI.

The executed search warrants on Wednesday revealed about 8.2 kilograms of fentanyl – a quantity with the lethal potential to kill millions. Complementing the staggering drug haul, agents seized 71 guns and recovered roughly $250,000 in cash, reported FOX5 Atlanta. Heroin, cocaine, and more than 10,000 pills, ostensibly including Schedule I and Schedule II substances, were also part of the confiscation. Ten individuals have been arrested in light of these findings, although their identities and specific charges remain undisclosed.

The operation specifically targeted a network accused of circulating fentanyl throughout several Georgia counties such as Paulding, Cobb, Douglas, Carroll, and Haralson. Task Force Commander Daniel Nicholson lauded the collaborative efforts that made the bust possible, stating, "When federal, state and local agencies work together to combat crime in our communities, the results speak for themselves," in a statement obtained by CBS News Atlanta.

Amidst the impressive seizures, a live hand grenade adds an alarming detail to the cache of contraband, underscoring the potential danger the operation posed to the safety of local residents. The task force involved is managed by the GBI and includes members from various law enforcement agencies across the region, working in tandem to address drug trafficking and related criminal activities. While ten arrests have been made, the investigation remains active and ongoing.
