After Publix closed its Atlantic Station location following a 20-year presence, residents are calling for a Trader Joe’s to take its place. An online petition supporting the idea has gathered nearly 1,600 signatures from locals interested in seeing the grocery chain move into the vacant space, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
The nearest Trader Joe’s is several miles from Atlantic Station, prompting concerns among residents, particularly seniors and those without cars. While the store’s arrival could address this gap, FOX 5 Atlanta stated that Trader Joe’s has not confirmed plans for the area, stating they are “actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country” but “do not have a location confirmed in Atlantic Station.”
A spokesperson for Atlantic Station told WSB-TV that the Publix closure presents an “opportunity to reimagine the space and consider concepts that will add new options and value to the surrounding community.” The petition supporting a Trader Joe’s in the area has gathered over 1,200 signatures, highlighting community interest in having a grocery store within walking distance.
Trader Joe’s has not confirmed any plans for an Atlantic Station location and is still evaluating potential neighborhoods. Atlantic Station continues to develop its retail spaces, with recent openings and more expected in the coming year.
