In the early hours of January 24th, a 12-year-old boy with autism found shelter with strangers after wandering cold and disoriented into their home near Chino Valley. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the residence at around 2:54 a.m., following the homeowner's emergency call regarding the unfamiliar young boy's appearance at their doorstep.
The deputies, leveraging their prior knowledge of the child, rapidly identified him as a boy who was briefly staying at a friend's house. He had left a note behind before embarking, alone, to try and to make his way back home without waking anyone. His journey took an unexpected turn, leading him to seek assistance from the concerned residents who contacted law enforcement.
The responding officers coordinated with medical personnel to check on the child's well-being before reuniting him with his parents.
