St. Louis Metropolitan Police Homicide detectives confirmed the identity of a body found in the North Riverfront neighborhood as that of Latoya Smith, a 42-year-old woman who was reported missing on December 29, 2025. According to FOX2Now, Smith's body was discovered in a grassy area off the Riverfront Trail, just north of Humboldt Avenue on Friday afternoon.
As KSDK reports, the Missing Persons Unit had been engaged in the search and made the grisly find near Humboldt Avenue. The Police department, seeking assistance from the public, released the information that anyone with knowledge of the case is encouraged to reach out.
Working in conjunction with the Intelligence Unit, the Missing Persons Unit received a tip that prompted the investigation which led them to the discovery of Smith's body around 1 p.m. Locating the deceased in a grassy area off the popular trail, detectives face the grim task of piecing together the events that ended in what is now a homicide investigation, as detailed in a social media post shared by the police department and reported by First Alert 4.
