Firefighters from the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department raced to the scene on the 600 block of North Avenue and were met with flames consuming 80% of the single-story home. Teams from Rescue 4 and Engine 21 were instrumental in not only fighting the fire but also rescuing an individual trapped inside. Utilizing a thermal imaging camera to locate the occupant, they acted decisively to forcibly enter the building and extract the person from the hazardous environment. According to the Athens-Clarke County, the patient was initially in the care of Engine 21's team before National EMS swiftly transported them to Piedmont Athens Regional, followed by a transfer to Augusta Burn Center for further treatment.
