Brentwood's Public Works department is stepping up to assist residents grappling with the aftermath of recent storm damage. The City of Brentwood has announced that it will offer free debris removal services to aid in recovery efforts. Homeowners with fallen trees or branches on their property are responsible for moving the tree limbs to the public right-of-way, which should be along the street or curb.

However, with an aim to streamline the process, the city has set some rules. Debris must be no further than 10 feet from the street or curb, and tree limbs must not exceed eight feet in length. Not accepted by the system, the city has made it clear that it will not take root balls, stumps, or construction materials. According to an official statement by Brentwood officials, only vegetative storm debris will be collected.

For the debris to be eligible for pickup, residents must observe specific guidelines for placement. Debris should be stacked within 10 feet of the curb or edge of the street, ensuring at least a 5-foot horizontal clearance from objects like hydrants, mailboxes, or poles — and notably, it cannot be sprawled under the canopy of a tree. The city emphasizes the need for vertical as well as horizontal clearance to facilitate smooth removal by the machinery.

Under the exception made during this emergency, Brentwood will also accept debris cut by contractors, expanding its services to better address residents' needs. While there is no restriction on the diameter of the debris, the city reiterates that no other waste or construction material will be considered for removal. As the recovery process may be prolonged, it has been communicated to residents that the debris removal could take several weeks.

If residents come across downed trees that obstruct public roadways, yet are not entangled with power lines, they are urged to contact the Brentwood Public Works office directly at 615-371-0080. For any fallen power lines, residents should reach out to Middle Tennessee Electric at 877-777-9020 or Nashville Electric Service at 615-234-0000, as a precaution and to resolve the issue safely.
