The California Highway Patrol is actively seeking information regarding a freeway shooting incident that occurred on the eastbound Interstate 580 in Oakland. On November 20, 2025, at around 11:40 AM, officers from the Oakland Area Office were dispatched following reports of gunfire near Coolidge Avenue.

According to details provided by the CHP on their social media channel, an individual was driving eastbound on I-580 when they fell victim to shots fired from a menacing vehicle, described to be a small, dark-colored SUV with heavily tinted windows, potentially a Mazda. The SUV engaged erratically before aligning itself alongside the victim's car and unleashing multiple gunshots. The CHP's statement elaborates, "The SUV pulled alongside the victim's vehicle on the passenger side, at which time an occupant, described as an adult Black male with dreadlock-style hair, fired multiple gunshots at the victim's vehicle."

Despite the victim's car being hit multiple times, there have been no injuries reported from this incident. The suspect and their vehicle were gone upon officers' arrival, thus prompting the CHP to reach out to the community for additional information.

The CHP Oakland has made an appeal: "Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact the CHP Tip Line at (707) 917-4491."
