Bay Area commuters, mark your calendars for Saturday as Caltrain rolls out a new schedule that restores electric train service to San Jose's Tamien Station. After months of relying on VTA replacement bus services, travelers can once again enjoy the speed and efficiency of electric trains on their weekday and weekend journeys.
Minor adjustments accompany the major headline of electric service restoration. College Park Station will now see the arrival of Train 143 at 3:31 p.m., a shift from the earlier Train 141 at 3:01 p.m. According to Caltrain's announcement, the new times for other trains from San Jose Diridon include Train 141 at 2:58 p.m. and Train 143 at 3:23 p.m., with morning commuters able to catch Train 104 at 7:03 a.m. and Train 108 at 8:23 a.m.
The electrical rejuvenation of the route to Tamien Station is a direct result of nearly 40,000 hours of labor on the Guadalupe Bridge Replacement Project. The Overhead Contact System (OCS) on the western track of the 91-year-old structure now stands ready to serve the electric fleet once more. The protracted construction and meticulous work showcase the region's commitment to modernizing its public transportation infrastructure while honoring the historical integrity of its systems.
With these changes, Caltrain aims to provide not only a more sustainable option for commuters but also a more reliable, on-time service.
