Hey, Cambridge locals with a sporty streak - here's something right up your alley. The Cambridge Women’s Commission and Cambridge Recreation are gearing up to inspire the next generation of female athletes with their Girls in Sports Night, happening Tuesday, January 20. Set the GPS for the War Memorial Field House, plant yourself at 1640 Cambridge St., Door 15, and prepare to dive into an evening of athletic exploration from 5 –7 p.m., as reported by the City of Cambridge.
This isn't just another run-of-the-mill community meet and greet. Studies make it crystal clear: girls who stay active in sports often slam dunk their way to better grades, boosted confidence, and a skill set that screams success in the workforce. Not to mention a bigger social circle that can come handy in more ways than one. But let's not lose focus - Girls in Sports Night is about more than the high fives and team chants; it's an opportunity to join local Cambridge teams and give a variety of sports a test run right on the spot.
With a lineup that includes everything from hockey to ultimate frisbee, and flag football to softball, the event promises a chance to get up close with the sports reps. Expect to get your hands on some gear, maybe even try out some moves, or simply sign up if something catches your eye. If you're all about fun and games (literally), they have you covered with games, pizza, and more!
Designed especially for K-5 Cambridge students who identify as girls or embrace girlhood, this sporting extravaganza requires registration, so don't drop the ball there. To get on the list, just sprint to the official registration page like you're going for gold. And while you're at it, why not extend the evening? Post-event, there's a free viewing of the CRLS Girls Varsity Basketball Team game at 7 p.m., which sounds like a slam dunk way to wrap up the night. If there are any questions dribbling through your mind, shoot an email over to Adam Corbeil, the Director of Cambridge Recreation, at [email protected].
