
The Canton community is grappling with a family tragedy after a 15-year-old boy was arrested for shooting and killing his 12-year-old brother. According to a statement obtained by Cleveland 19, the teen turned himself in to the Canton Police Department yesterday afternoon following the fatal incident the night before.
Police were initially called to the residence on the 3600 block of Ellis Avenue NE around 10:40 p.m. on Friday after a 911 caller reported a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 12-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital by Canton Fire Department medics, but succumbed to his injuries. The teen arrested in connection with the shooting was identified as the victim’s older brother, as reported by WKYC.
The Canton Police Department has charged the 15-year-old, identified as Amir Lucas, with reckless homicide. Residents, shocked by the incident, expressed their heartbreak, with one neighbor reflecting on the youth of the victim and the familiarity of seeing the young boy outside playing. The events leading to the shooting are still under investigation, and further details regarding the circumstances have not yet been disclosed.
